Erg Chigaga (also written Chegaga) is a remote Saharan dune field beyond M’Hamid El Ghizlane, in Zagora Province. The final approach crosses rough open-desert tracks, so an experienced 4x4 driver is essential. Multi-day experiences may combine the Draa Valley, Tamegroute, M’Hamid, a sunset camel ride, desert camping and a return route near Lake Iriki and Foum Zguid. Unlike Erg Chebbi at Merzouga, Chigaga is not reached by a normal paved road. It deserves one main Place page even when featured in Tours departing Ouarzazate or Marrakech.

From M’Hamid El Ghizlane, the final approach follows rough open-desert tracks with an experienced 4x4 driver. Do not plan it in a standard car without an escort. A typical 3-day route from Ouarzazate: day 1 Ouarzazate → Draa Valley/Zagora/Tamegroute; day 2 Zagora → M’Hamid → Chigaga camp; day 3 Chigaga → Lake Iriki → Foum Zguid → Taznakht → Ouarzazate.
Travel tips
Via Zagora to M’Hamid El Ghizlane, then roughly 50–60 km of off-road track with an experienced 4x4 driver. Multi-day tours from Ouarzazate or Marrakech usually include the drive.
